Psychosis

Psychotic disorders are usually treated with a combination of psychological therapy, medication, family support, and occupational or other allied health support.

Medication prescribed by a psychiatrist or GP can involve “antipsychotics” which help to correct the chemical imbalance in the brain and reduce symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions and thinking difficulties.

Psychological therapy aims to build coping skills, manage symptoms and triggers, and improve overall wellbeing.

Other interventions including peer support groups, self-help, and lifestyle changes can also form part of treatment.
