Mental Health Month

October marks Mental Health Month in Australia—a time to reflect, connect, and act. It’s a powerful reminder that mental health is not just a clinical concern; it’s a shared human experience that touches every one of us—our families, friends, colleagues, and communities. This month is about promoting better mental health, reducing stigma, and encouraging open conversations and community support.

At iMH, we are proud to champion an integrated model of care that ensures the right support is delivered in the right place at the right time. For me, mental health care is about creating spaces where people feel safe, respected, and supported in their journey. It’s about fostering a culture where psychological safety is not an afterthought—it’s embedded in everything we do.

Mental Health Month also calls us to look inward. Supporting our teams to nurture their own mental wellbeing is vital. I often think of the airline reminder: “Put your own oxygen mask on before assisting others.” It’s a simple truth—when we care for ourselves, we’re better equipped to care for others.

Across our hospitals—Deakin, Hirondelle, and Nundah Private—we’re celebrating this month with activities that bring our teams and communities together. From wellness workshops to peer support initiatives, we’re creating opportunities to connect, reflect, and grow.

To our incredible teams: thank you. Your compassion, dedication, and daily efforts make a profound difference. Together, we’re building a future where mental health is understood, respected, and supported—every day, for everyone.
